Exercise Can Improve Brain Function and Health
In a society filled with computerized everything, our
children are spending less and less time outside playing
or exercising and more time in front of computers or
handheld video games. While their computer
knowledge may far out weigh many adults, their bodies
may also. But some research is showing that "one of
the best ways to maximize the brain is through
exercise, movement." (The Boston Globe - 1999).
Exercise has a way of helping people feel great, and
also increases blood flow in the brain and levels of
brain-cell growth hormone.
As our children are becoming more and more overweight, their levels of depression are increasing as well. One of the best ways to treat depression long term is to exercise daily! So exercising a little everyday, can optimize the health and brain function of our children! Taking a walk in the mornings or evenings with your children is a great way for you to catch up on what happened in their day, as well as get the blood pumping! Playing catch, tag, tennis, or your favorite game in the yard is also a great way to bond with your children and help keep them and you active. Weekends are a great time to head over to the park to play frisbee or just take a stroll in the fresh air. As long as you are moving, you are burning calories and helping increase brain function! A minimum of 20 - 30 minutes a day will make a world of difference in you and your child, but not your schedule! Enjoy life and your body....you only get one here on earth! |

Over the last several years, Vitamin E has been quite
controversial. One study says it is very effective in
disease prevention particularly heart disease, another
says it can increase risk for mortality. What is one to
believe?
As it turns out, the studies that showed Vitamin E to
be ineffective, were performed on people that were
already at grave risk of dying from existing diseases,
including cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's,
Parkinson's and kidney failure. Science has shown
that while Vitamin E may not decrease mortality in
those who already have a disease, it is very effective
in preventing diseases if taken long term. Vitamin E
has also been shown to be effective in reducing the
incidence of upper respiratory infections in elderly
people.
Bottom line is, taking 400 I.U.'s of Vitamin E (also known as alpha and gamma tocopherol)a day can be very beneficial in preventing disease as well as for overall health! Currently there are 8 naturally occurring, and 8 synthetic vitamin E substances available. Vitamin E activity is found in the oil fraction of most vegetable foods, and is generally extracted from soya, corn, or safflower oils for supplementation purposes. The healthiest forms of Vitamin E are those found in whole healthy foods. If you are looking for an easy way to get your Vitamin E into your diet, we have just the supplement for you! Emotions a key to health and happiness
Are emotions healthy? You may ask which emotions.
All emotions, are they healthy? What do you think?
Emotions are funny things. One psychotherapist called
emotions a feeling experience. I don't know what that
means, but it doesn't sound like a good description to
me. The dictionary says, "A mental state that arises
spontaneously rather than through conscious effort
and is often accompanied by physiological changes."
They are just a mental state that arises
spontaneously? What does that mean? It makes us
sound like victims of some horrible mistake of nature or
God. Here we are walking around being victims of
spontaneous emotions that can strike at purely
random patterns, and there is nothing we can do
about it. Or is there?
I think emotions are plain and simple, a lie. That is
right, they are a lie; bold faced, clear through, true
blue, and deceitfully bred a lie. Emotions do not occur
in nature. The universe doesn't create them, it is made
of love and abundance. Any state other than love or
abundance we place into the universe. Animals don't
have emotions (that will get me some feedback from
some people) and children do not have them until we
start to train them to have them. So why are
emotions just a lie? For two reasons:
Our judgment is always faulty. We never see anything as it really is unless we see it completely through the lenses of love and abundance. People interviewed on TV often display anger, frustration or fear about some apparent crisis that happened in their circle of concern. They have judged it as bad or sad or good, with no complete view of what would happen in the grand scheme of things if that event had not transpired. God on the other hand has a complete view of everything from the beginning to the end. All that happens to us is within God's universe. That makes it love and/or abundance. If we choose to judge it otherwise, we display our short sightedness, which leads to emotions. Emotions can be a great teacher of how our views of life, as it really is, are mistaken. In every situation I can think of we have the choice of experiencing a virtue or an emotion. We are familiar with emotions, but let me list some virtues. Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance are among the virtues. If we are in a state of virtue, we are not under the influence of, nor controlled by emotions. So what are the differences between virtues and emotions. Virtues spring out of a walk in life that is directly compatible with universal laws, or a godly walk. Emotions spring out of our spiritual paradigm, when it differs with God's, combined with our life experiences. When our spiritual perspective is the same as God's, we are filled with virtue, no matter the experience. When our perspective is different than the divine perspective, or universal laws, we are filled with emotions. Even if the emotion is one of a so called positive sort, this is misleading. If you win the lottery would you be happy, even jubilant? But a majority of lottery winners get divorced and go bankrupt within 5 years. If someone handed you a piece of paper that promised you a better than 50% odds of getting divorced and going bankrupt you would probably be saddened and rightly so. But isn't that exactly what the winning lottery ticket is? Our emotion of happiness at winning the lottery is a beguiling and incorrect state of being. From the book of Jasher we have an excellent example of this virtuous walk. Abraham was commanded to sacrifice his long awaited and promised son and heir. Was this good or bad. From a worldly view point this was bad. From a spiritual view point this was good. How could it be good? It gave both Abraham and Isaac the opportunity to walk according to a higher principle as demonstrated by Isaac. Abraham was obedient to the command from a divine source. What was his inner state and most private thoughts we will never know, but Isaac reveals a deep insight into how his father probably looked at this event. The Book of Jasher reports, "Now Isaac was of such a generous disposition, as became the son of such a father, and said, 'That he was not worthy to be born at first if he should reject the determination of God and of his father.'" "There is nothing in my heart to cause me to deviate either to the right or to the left from the work that he has spoken to thee, But I am of joyful and cheerful heart in this matter, and I say, Blessed is the Lord who has this day chosen me to be a burnt offering before Him." Isaac was possessed of virtue rather than emotion. His view was that his father was indeed inspired and that God would ask nothing that was not for the greatest good. He cheerfully went along. Cheerfulness is a virtue not an emotion. As the story unfolds, Abrahams hand was stayed and Isaac lived to father a nation of the promised souls according to the Bibles historical record. Isaacs virtuous state was proven correct. Had he displayed the emotions we could only imagine in today's world, he would have been shown to be living the lie of emotion. Is this easy to disavow the emotional state? I haven't mastered it for sure. But becoming begins with awareness. Start to witness the lie of your emotions and find the sure foundation that comes with virtue. Health can truly only be built on the bedrock of virtue. The sooner we start to seek a real spiritual perspective and learn from our emotions what is false, the sooner we can begin to seek a sure course in time and beyond. |
