The “O” Zone
The subtitle of our information letter is SENSE. The first ‘S’ stands for spiritual. Spirituality is a critical aspect of our health, and is representative of our connection to God. Let me ask you a few questions. How do you see God? How does God see God? Are they the same? Our awareness of God is inextricably connected to our view of ourselves. Click here to read on

Thoughts to Ponder
In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins—not through strength, but by perseverance
~ H. Jackson Brown

Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
~ Harold Whitman

Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice. It is not something to be waited for, but rather something to be achieved.
~William Jennings Bryan

You Can Be a Leader
There are always opportunities in life to lead. It’s important that when you make the opportunity you know how to be a leader. Her are some ways to be an effective leader:

1. Begin with praise and honest appreciation.
2. Call attention to people’s mistakes indirectly.
3. Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person.
4. Ask questions instead of giving direct orders.
5. Let the other person save face.
6. Praise the slightest improvement and praise every improvement. Be “hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise.
7. Give the other person a fine reputation to live up to. Use encouragement. Make the fault seem easy to correct.
8. make the other person happy about doing the thing you suggest.

A Little Humor for the New Year
I’m thinking about one bright little boy called Timmy.
Timmy had only two pennies in his pocket when he approached the farmer and pointed to a tomato hanging lusciously from a vine.
“Give you two cents for it,” the boy offered.
“That kind brings a nickel,” the farmer told him.
“This one?” Timmy asked, pointing to a smaller, greener, and less tempting specimen. The farmer nodded agreement. “OK,” said Timmy, and sealed the deal by placing his two pennies in the farmer’s hand. As he turned to walk away he said over his shoulder, “I’ll pick it up in about a week.”

"The O"-Zone
The subtitle of our information letter is SENSE. The first ‘S’ stands for spiritual. Spirituality is a critical aspect of our health, and is representative of our connection to God. Let me ask you a few questions. How do you see God? How does God see God? Are they the same? Our awareness of God is inextricably connected to our view of ourselves. How do we attain to any level of real self-esteem until we have an accurate awareness of who we really are? How can we know who we really are until we have an acute and accurate awareness of who God is, God’s characteristics and attributes? Are we individuals? Are we a personage that has lasting individuality or are we only temporary manifestations of some great divine presence? What difference does it make? If we are individuals, we have choice; and our choices make real and significant differences. If we are a temporary manifestation of a divine being, that one day will be absorbed back into that being, then we have no real choice, no matter what we do it will be balanced eventually by some other force or presence. The laws of dualism will always create balance. If we are individuals then our choices have consequences and we do matter. Were we created for a reason? Next week we will talk about that reason.

The Sugar Shake
The average American consumed 146 lbs. of sugar in 2002 and 16.2 lbs. of artificial sweeteners. No wonder Americans are struggling with a weight problem. With all the confusing and conflicting “diet” data out there, one fact is clear—and that is, by consuming less calories you can help to control your weight. The breakdown of sugar consumption is 45 lbs (about 2 oz/day) of refined sugar, 58 lbs. of corn sweetener (about 2.5 oz/day), and a little over a pound of honey/maple syrup per year, then you top it off with the 16.2 lbs. per person of artificial sweeteners. These are averages so some consume way above these numbers and others consume way below these amounts
The amount of sugar/sweetener consumed is staggering, but the scary part is that people are consuming artificial sweeteners even though they are bad for them.

1. Some artificial sweeteners still contain calories due to the additives that provide bulk even though they list them as 0 calories.
2. The body still senses many sweeteners as carbohydrates, so the response is similar to a sugar response.
3. Saccharin (Sweet n Low) is derived from petroleum, a known carcinogen.
4. Aspartame (Nutrasweet and Equal) contains phenylalanine, a dangerous neurtoxin.
5. Aceulfame-K (Sunette or Sweet One) doesn’t provide energy and is not metabolized, therefore is excreted unchanged.
6. Sucralose (Splenda) is not recognized as a carbohydrate, but some of it is passively absorbed in the body, yet the majority is excreted unchanged. The absorbed portion is not metabolized and is eliminated within 24 hours.
7. Neotame, a new sweetener that as of yet is not found in any products, is quickly metabolized and fully eliminated through natural biological processes. Though approved by the FDA the newest sweeteners cannot be fully tested.

The goal of sweeteners is to trick the body into not sensing the molecule or to introduce into the body nonusable additives.
