Thoughts to Ponder
For each pain, there is a reason in the depths of consciousness.
~ Reinhold Voll

Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think.
~ Benjamin Disraeli

Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Everyday I walk myself into a state of well being and walk away from every illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it...but by sitting still, and the more one sits still, the closer one comes to feeling ill. if one just keeps on walking everything will be all right.
~Soren Kierkegaard

"The O"-Zone
Every emotion creates physical effects. Fear is a foundational emotion. That means that it is the precursor to many other emotions, nearly all of them negative. Fear and love are creative emotions. Fear creates chaos and love creates order. That which we fear we create in greater and greater levels of chaos. That which we love we create in greater and greater levels of order. If a person is afraid of something, they will attract that thing into their life. If they love something they will attract that thing into their life. I believe there are ultimately only two emotions; fear in all its derivations, and love with its associated virtues. If you want to know your deepest emotional state, look at what you have attracted into your life. It is either that which you love or that which you fear. If you love your life you are acting out of love. If you are not pleased with your life you are acting out of fear.

Anti-Bacterial Soaps Don’t Deliver Punch Against Colds
Anti-bacterial soaps do not deliver the type of protection from common health ailments that consumers expect, according to a study. Researchers at Columbia University gave anti-bacterial cleaning products to 120 New York City families, monitored them for almost a year, and found they experienced about the same number of runny noses, sore throats and fevers as another group that got regular soaps and detergents.

The study, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, concluded that the products did not reduce the risk for symptoms of the viral infections that are among the most common causes of colds, coughs and stomach aches. This is because anti-bacterial fighting agents have no effect on viruses, only bacteria. Cold and flu are results of viruses not bacteria. The growing use of anti-bacterial soaps in the home has been of concern to some scientists who theorize that their widespread use might lead to the evolution of harder-to-kill, antibiotic-resistant germs.

The best way to protect yourself against cold and flu is to keep your immune system in balance by focusing on the Healing SENSE. Get regular chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture if necessary to aid your body in maintaining its strong natural defenses. Get adequate sleep and avoid sugar. These are the best things you can do for yourself to not just avoid cold and flu, but to ensure health. We also have an excellent array of herbs to help you fend off the bugs if you catch them or to protect you so you don’t get caught.

Doctors are Hesitant to Give Patients Care Not Cure
A new twist on hospice care called palliative care offers a calming environment minus heroic life saving efforts for the terminally ill. Unlike hospice, which begins six months prior to death, and comes to the patients’ homes, patients can be admitted to palliative care prior to that time. Palliative care is in its infancy in the U.S. though it is very much supported and used in Britain. The upside of this care is twofold. One, the cost to the healthcare system is less than half normal hospital care for the terminally ill. Secondly, from the patient’s side it is more comfortable and comforting.

This care is focused on that, care, not cure. In palliative care the patient again becomes the primary focus. In normal medical care the disease is the center of attention. It provides a comfortable atmosphere to live out the final days. For example, the palliative-care unit at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center offers plush carpeting, original watercolors and a kitchen for visiting families. A massage therapist is available often, a chaplain is available 24 hours a day, and there’s a lively little Lhasa apso that patients love to pet. The unit provides services above and beyond a hospital setting. One patient requested a final Christmas with her family. The staff obliged and gave her a wonderful, real Christmas even though it was the middle of August. Besides Christmas, it has been the scene of bar mitzvahs, weddings, and a high school graduation ceremony.

So beyond saving 1,000s of dollars, the care saves and preserves quality of life through the end. It is not based on heroic efforts or curing disease. Holistic medicine differs in that it can and should start when you are well. This type of healthcare is not specifically preventive, but is true health care. It maintains health and well-being. It isn’t avoiding disease it’s promoting health. We provide that type of healthcare here. We put the patient at the center, not the disease or condition. We promote health in each individual. The wave of the future is integrated healthcare, not preventive or heroic medicine. We are at the forefront of this future and commit to providing you with the best health care possible. Maybe there is hope for the United States’ system of health care to put the patient first more.
