Dear Alan,

Mercury Found in High Fructose Corn Syrup!

-According to the January issue of Environmental Health, nearly 50% of tested samples of commercial high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) contained mercury, which is toxic in all forms.

-A separate study detected mercury in nearly one-third of 55 popular brand-name food and beverage products where HFCS is the first or second highest labeled ingredient.

-Other studies have linked HFCS to obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, heart disease, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, elevated levels of triglycerides, and more.

-HFCS can be found in many soft drinks, dairy products, soups, jellies, processed foods, among others. It is now being pumped into commercially sold meat products. Pork is a prime example.

-The best bet for the consumer is to read labels and avoid foods that contain HFCS, especially the ones where HFCS is listed as the first or second ingredient.

"O"Zone

Choose Your Own Weather

Some people love the spring. It's their favorite season. Some think summer or fall is what brings them the most comfort and pleasure. There may even be a few winter-lovers out there (heaven forbid). Some love a good thunderstorm, and others are frightened by them. But no matter what the weather is like outside, we all have the ability to choose our own weather on the inside.

Is it bright and sunny in your skin? Or is freezing? Or so hot and humid you can't breathe? If it's not the way you want it to be, just change it!

How can we change it? It's kind of like changing channels on the television. You have the remote control in your mind. Keep looking at possible perspectives until you come up with one you like. My wife can't watch TV with me (as if we had the time). I like channel surfing. I watch a program for a few minutes until I figure out what's going on, and when it gets boring to me, I flip to the next channel. The problem arises because she hasn't processed it to the same place as I have. She isn't bored yet, or hasn't figured out what is going on to the point she is willing to leave it behind. When I hit the next channel, she is left unsatisfied. She gets up and goes to a different room to find a TV so she can change the channels as she wants.

The judgments we make inside will overcome whatever is coming to us from the outside. As human beings, we have the power to create. We can take almost any substance, be it matter or thought, and make of it what we will. I saw a video of an area of Africa on the southern coast. Because of the strange currents of the oceans, they get everyone else's garbage washing up on their beaches. Is this good or bad? Some of them have decided to turn that junk into their business and a way to make a living. They have taken huge numbers of flip flops that washed up onto their beaches and carved them into pony tail holders that are now being sold on the streets in New York City. One person's trash is another person's treasure, based on our willingness to be creative. We can create anything we want, based on natural law. As long as we follow laws, we can create, become, learn, develop, realize, and mature into that which we yearn for inside.

So what are the laws of creating your own weather inside? How do you access them? How do you use them? We will talk about these laws in upcoming "O"zones. The next logical question is: How do you know when you are succeeding at playing on this advanced field in life? It's when you are responsible for your feelings, emotions, and perceptions. It's when you are loving life, even in the midst of what some would call "bad times." It's when each circumstance drives your awareness closer to the divine. That's when you are being your own weatherman(woman).

Both Red and White Wine Raise Breast Cancer Risk

--General evidence states alcohol consumption increases breast cancer risk, but some studies have shown positive values to drinking red wine.

--Dr. Polly Newcomb's team in Seattle states that in their analysis they found no difference between red and white wines in regards to breast cancer risk. Neither appears to have any benefits.

Cellphones May Spread Superbugs in Hospitals

--Cell phones belonging to hospital staff were found to be tainted with bacteria--including the drug-resistant MSRA superbug--and may be a source of hospital-acquired infections

More Evidence Prostate Tests Overdiagnose Cancer

--A new study says that as many as two of every five men whose prostate cancer was caught through a PSA screening test have tumors too slow-growing to ever be a threat.

--Anywhere from 23 percent to 42 percent of PSA-detected cancers would otherwise never have been detected in the man's lifetime.

--Finding an early tumor forces men to choose among contested treatments, some of which can cause impotence or incontinence, so they may suffer serious side effects for no gain if cancer was overdiagnosed.
