Thoughts to Ponder
When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary
project, all your thoughts break their bonds. Your mind transcends
limitations. Your consciousness expands in every direction and you
find yourself in a new and great and wonderful world. Dormant forces,
faculties and talents come alive and you discover yourself to be
a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.
~ Pantangali ~
I have yet to find the man, however exalted his station, who did
not do better work and put forth greater effort under a spirit of
approval than under a spirit of criticism.
~ Charles M. Schwab ~
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but curiosity is the mother
of discovery.
~ Charles Handy ~

The “O”-Zone Life is a play:
Act Don’t React
To act or to react, that is the question. Well, it
isn’t what Shakespeare said, but it is what he should have
said. Do we react to situations, circumstances, and others’
attitudes, or do we choose to act out of our highest self at all
times? What is the difference? By reacting we are giving others
power over us. We are judging their attitudes, motives, and reasons
for their behavior, and then reacting based on our judgment of their
motives. If we choose to act, we don’t judge, we just act
out of our most virtuous capacity. Those who act develop the ability
to inspire. Those who react can only conspire. Inspiration comes
from above and conspiracy comes from within. Inspiration is the
allowance of a higher power to work in and through you. Conspiracy
is the denial of a higher power and the insistence that your desires
are supreme. If you catch yourself saying something like: “They
made me mad. Or, I can’t handle my child when they do that.
Or, my boss is intolerable.” Realize you are trying to conspire
a way to control a situation, person, or circumstance. Just be the
best you can be, act, stay in inspiration, not conspiracy, and your
stress levels will drop. Your blood pressure will even out, blood
sugar will remain even, stress hormones will stop producing fat,
and you will stop craving food to help nurture you in stress.
To act is to engender healthy behaviors, to react is to be motivated
by a dis-ease or symptoms. If dis-ease or symptoms is your motivation,
true health becomes unattainable. Focus on health; act and your
life will be placed in your control and health will be within your
grasp once again.

Life Lessons from an Unlikely Source
Sometimes we can learn a lot from unlikely people and circumstances.
Some of life’s best lessons are learned unexpectedly. We have
to be willing to see the reality of the lesson in every circumstance.
Amazingly we can learn a few lessons from animals, too.
One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The animal
cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what
to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed
to be covered up anyway; it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve
the donkey.
He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all
grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first,
the donkey realized what was happening and cried horrible. Then,
to everyone’s amazement he quieted down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well.
He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that
hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake
it off and take a step up.
As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top
of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty
soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped right over the edge
of the well and happily trotted off!
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick
to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up.
Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest
wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take
a step up!
Aspirin Effectiveness May Wear Off
The March 17, 2004 Journal of the American College of Cardiology
reports that over time, aspirin taken daily to prevent blood clotting
loses its effectiveness. Previous research has indicated that aspirin’s
clinical efficacy decreases over a two-year period. This study,
done at the University “La Sapienza” in Rome, Italy
also found similar results after monitoring blood samples from 150
patients for two years after they started aspirin therapy. At the
beginning of treatment, a maximum of 88% of patients platelets could
be made to clump together. While aspirin decreased that number to
38% after two months, the clumping gradually increased back up to
62% after 24 months.
.
The practice of using aspirin for people with cardiac arrhythmias,
artificial heart valve, high blood pressure, clogged arteries, and
just about anyone who has had a heart attack has really caught on.
Today 26 million Americans are taking a daily aspirin!
Previous research has also shown that people taking an aspirin a
day suffer from a higher incidence of stroke and kidney disease
than those who don’t take a daily aspirin.
If you are one of the millions taking an aspirin a day it is important
to remember: Aspirin is not a wonder drug or a cure-all. Like most
medicines its use is limited and should only be used for what it
is intended. Drugs like aspirin can and will lose their effectiveness
when used in excess. In fact, the practice itself has been debunked
in Europe, as reported in medical journals there, yet it continues
here as a routine practice. It can be a life long drug debility
for unsuspecting patients.
Aspirin has a dangerous side effect of internal bleeding. There
are some natural products that will help reduce platelet aggregation,
the main reason for prescribing aspirin. These products are cod
liver oil and whole phytonutrient vitamins B and E. They work like
a low dose aspirin without the risk. For natural alternatives with
the benefits but not he side effects of aspirin, give us a call.

Health Myths
A continuation of our top health myths summer series.
Myth Two: Milk It Does a Body Good
Commercial pasteurized milk is not a health food and should be avoided.
It is primarily the pasteurization process combined with the source
of largely unhealthy cows that is the problem. When milk is pasteurized
the structure of the milk protein changes (denaturization) into
something far less healthy. It destroys some of milk’s valuable
nutrition, including almost all vitamin D, half of all vitamin C,
and half to three-quarter of vitamin B complex. The essential enzymes
and growth factors destroyed during pasteurization are irreplaceable,
unlike vitamin A and D. For example, phosphatase enzyme in milk
is necessary for the absorption of calcium. Pasteurization destroys
this enzyme, rendering pasteurized milk a poor source of calcium
that can be utilized by the body. Other enzymes destroyed include
lactase for assimilation of lactose and galactase for the assimilation
of galactose. Milk devoid of such enzymes is much more difficult
to digest and acts as a stressor on our body.
Then, of course there is the issue of the hormones, antibiotics,
and pesticides and the fact that nearly all commercial dairy cows
are raised on grains, not grass. Grain fed cows create omega 6-fats,
an excess of this type of fat is a major cause for poor health.
It has been linked to heart disease and other risks. Grass fed cows
create healthy omega 3-fats. It is important to get a balance of
omega 3 and omega 6 fats, but the typical American diet gets over
10 times too much of omega 6-fats. Omega 3 fats help feed your brain
and your cells. They also increase your energy level and ability
to concentrate. The research suggests that switching to grass-fed
products may reduce the risk of a number of diseases, including
diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.
Raw milk is healthier. This is unpasteurized milk. Pasteurization
was a necessity of the past because of poor sanitation. Times have
changed and modern stainless steel tanks, milking machines, refrigerated
trucks and inspection methods make pasteurization less needed for
public protection.
Cultured raw milk products like yogurt and kefir are generally good
for our digestive tract and our over all health. Raw milk can be
obtained through private dairies and kefir is available at health
food stores.
