Joy
Joy is one of the most difficult emotions to contain. By nature it is expansive; it wants to go out into the world. The purpose of joy is to connect us with spirit, with the creative, and with the world around us. Although in our culture we often think of joy as excited exhilaration (jumping for joy), it can also appear as quiet radiance, pleasure, clarity, inspiration, devotion, unblocked creativity, the ability to manifest plans and dreams, and peace. Joy is the feeling of alignment, of everything working. It is the movement of the spirit, the feeling of the true self sensing, knowing, and expressing itself in relation to the world.

Joy is the full expression of love. It is the integration of honesty and love. When we feel a genuine love inside out of necessity it must escape us. We must express it. It can be expressed in the arts, emotions, craftsmanship, behavior, healing, a countenance, or gift-giving. Joy is not an act it is an attitude. It is not so much how you express it, but that you do. The possessing of joy begins the expression, and the expression of joy makes the world a better place. It is in the expression of joy that the law of entropy, or natural disintegration is overcome. When gratitude and joy blend into a web of creation we find the divine side of our potential expressed. It is our hope for each of you that the joy that forms the deepest, most genuine levels of human creativity blesses your lives this incredible season

Thanks to Karen for this great excerpt on joy.

Clean Water
Over the past couple of decades there has been an increase in the occurrence of brain cancer. One water expert suspects that much of this increase is due to our growing exposure to toxic chemicals and pollutants. Now, researchers from the National Cancer Institute have traced some of the problem to the long-term consumption of chlorinated water. Other by-products can end up in your drinking water that are traces from the byproducts of pharmaceuticals. If you are concerned about pollution in your water, you can call Ozark Water Service at 1-800-835-8908. We feel we should pass this number along to you. They have chemists and water specialists that regulate water and answer questions on air and water problems and provide remediation equipment.

The “O” Zone—The Problem of Pain
Why is pain a necessary part of life? Buddha is reported to have said, “In life pain is not optional, but suffering is.” Why is it that pain is not optional? Why do we seem to need pain? I have pondered on this question for years.
I believe the answer is that pain helps us become present. Our greatest is to be distracted continually by the emotions of the past; anger, frustration or the emotions of the future; which are constituted mostly in fear.
As we act out of these emotional states we miss the emotions of the present: peace, joy, happiness and love. Pain helps bring us back to the present. It is only while thinking, feeling, and believing in the present we can enjoy the positive emotions that we each desire in life. This idea is well expressed in this short poem by a wise but unknown author.

Pain stayed so long I said to him today, “I will not have you with me anymore.” I stamped my foot and said, “Be on your way.” And paused there startled at the look he wore. “I who have been your friend,” he said to me, “I who have been your teacher—all you know of understanding, love, of sympathy and patience, I have taught you. Shall I go?” He spoke the truth, this strange, unwelcome guest; I watched him leave, and knew that he was wise. He left a heart grown tender in my breast, he left a far clearer vision in my eyes. I dried my tears, and lifted up a song—even for one who’d tortured me so long.

Perhaps we can find it in our hearts to catch the glimpse of gratitude even in our pain. It is our pain that helps us live more in the present and more in the virtues of the present: love, peace, and joy. When we see the virtue that can come out of pain we don’t need to suffer anymore.

Thoughts to Ponder
“A hammer breaks glass, but forges steel.”
--Old Russian Proverb

"The thing that lies at the foundation of positive change, the way I see it, is service to a fellow human being."
--Lech Walesa

“At the center of the universe is a loving heart that continues to beat and that wants the best for every person. Anything we can do to help foster the intellect and spirit and emotional growth of our fellow human beings, that is our job. Those of us who have this particular vision must continue against all odds. Life is for service.”
--Fred Rogers

If you can create it in your mind and your heart you can create it in your life.
--Unknown
